Is the nuclear bomb responsible for the American middle-class
A lot of ppl say the key to wealth is real property: the threat of nuclear annihilation force ppl to spread along a 2D plane over a 3D blast (remind us of something). For purposes of convenience, ownership was better in a house type. It wasn't the car (or was it)? Think about it. Ford made cars in the 20s and we didn't grow as much suburbs as we do now. The energies of preservation overcame other inertias.

So, where I'm leading up to is that the middle class arose out of technological progress. The presumption is that technology has surpass far beyond what the rich classes can absorb and they have to parse out to the masses (actually to maintain power via non-destruction of their nation). Elites will only take away from poor if given the resources to maintain power. If you eliminate the elite and give to poor, will their be enough direction? This will cause non-specialization (which may be good or bad). So far for Cuba, it's ok. I rather see a situation of the elite growing along with the masses rather than elite growth at expense of the poor. But that's for technology to decide....
ReplyDeleteIf u take away from elite, you take away their will to succeed, it may be given to the poor which if selectively given would in effect make them elite; a virtuous cycle. If u let the elite want to succeed, they may take advantage of the poor but if they succeed enough, there will be enough to make the poor middle-class. If u want to make the poor succeed (evenly), you make a middle-class (but still the masses) and whose going to be the leaders (the overthrowers of the original capital regime?) Just hypothetical stuff.
ReplyDeleteCould the nuclear age also have something to do with our standard 8 hour workday. Since most jobs were localized in cities, the probability of incident nuclear war would expose more populations to destruction every minute they stay longer? They would need to go back home and tend gardens for food? Am I overthinking this? Maybe, but if ppl overthink, there would be no change in leaderships. The fact that there is is reason to think there is more work than there are hours for doing them, including thought. There are over-thinkers but I believe when someone says that, they really mean that you are thinking in the wrong direction.
ReplyDeleteNo special treatment for uppers but don't attack them. Only displace them if they can't be innovative. To be elite is to be creative.
ReplyDeleteAnd I forgot to mention about timezones. In the US, it's only a 5 hour weak period since there's a 3 hour delay for California.
ReplyDeleteThe Soviet Union has 3 time zones vs 4 in the US. True it's 3 vs 3 in accordance with pop. density so it's close to an even match.
